Last updated · 2026-04-14

These terms ("Terms") govern your use of the hosted Trout service at trout.money. The Trout source code is separately licensed under FSL-1.1-MIT and is outside the scope of these Terms.

1. Your account

You must provide a valid email address and verify it before using the service. You are responsible for keeping your credentials safe. You must be at least 16 years old.

2. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service to store data that doesn't belong to you.
  • Attempt to probe, scan, or tamper with the infrastructure.
  • Reverse-engineer paid features to resell them (you are free to self-host the open-source version).
  • Send automated traffic that exceeds reasonable fair-use limits.

3. Financial disclaimer

Trout is a budgeting tool, not a financial advisor, broker, or custodian. All balances, projections, and AI-generated suggestions are informational only. You are solely responsible for your financial decisions.

4. Bank sync

Bank connectivity is provided by GoCardless (Nordigen). When you connect a bank, you authorise GoCardless to read your transactions and balances on your behalf. You can revoke the connection at any time from Settings.

5. Availability

The service is provided "as is". We target best-effort availability but make no uptime guarantees during the beta period.

6. Pricing

The free tier is free. If and when paid tiers launch, existing free-tier users will be given at least 30 days notice before any pricing change affects them.

7. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Data & Privacy. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, with reasonable notice except where immediate action is required to protect the service or other users.

8. Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Trout's total liability for any claim arising from your use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Denmark. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of Copenhagen, except where mandatory consumer-protection law specifies otherwise.
